A Gtechniq Accredited Detailer from the United States of America received a top accolade, at an automotive aftermarket trade show, in Florida, recently.
Kevin Awalt, owner and operator of Arkham Shine, scooped the International Detailing Association’s ‘Detailer of the Year 2017’ award, at the Mobile Tech Expo in Orlando, Florida, last month.
Mr Awalt renowned for his detailing, carried out at his base in New Milford, Connecticut, said: “I’m privileged to work in what I feel is the best industry in the world. I don’t think I deserve this award more or less than anyone else.
“I don’t have the most high tech shop, I am not the best instructor there is, and I am by no means the best auto detailer. I take what is working for me, share it, and hope that it helps someone else elevate their business. I ask for the information that I need, and the majority of the time have other auto detailers and business owners willing to share their practices with me. It’s an amazing brotherhood (and sisterhood) that I am a part of.”
The International Detailing Association (IDA) has developed an awards programme to recognise individuals and companies that have made significant contributions to the detailing profession. The IDA Detailer of the Year Award is presented to a detailing technician who has demonstrated superior knowledge, technical skill, and professionalism.
According to the IDA, Kevin Awalt was nominated because he has operated a successful, stand-alone detail operation for many years. And he continues to grow his business through new detail offerings, and strives to be on top of all of the newest trends. On top of that, he has been sought out to oversee the detail operations for one of the most successful car wash chains in the country.
Thomas Palancia, Vice President of the International Detailing Association, said: “I have known Kevin for many years and have admired his perseverance and hunger for knowledge. He seeks out better methods to both produce the highest quality vehicle details and operate his business. I am thrilled that Kevin has won Detailer of Year, he is someone who shares our vision of holding detail professionals to the highest standards.”
The International Detailing Association is the leading industry association for professional detailing operators, suppliers and consultants.
